Rupee strengthens against US dollar on Friday
Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Friday amid a weak American currency against its major peers overseas, while firm domestic equities also supported rupee sentiments. However, foreign fund outflows, hawkish commentaries from some US Federal Reserve officials, limited further gains in rupee. Foreign Institutional Investors were net sellers in the capital market as they offloaded shares worth Rs 3,364.22 crore on Thursday, exchange data showed.
The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 83.05, stronger by 14 paise from its previous close of 83.19 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 83.1350 and 83.0550 respectively.
