Indian equities are likely to start on a largely flat note, with Gift Nifty around 23,095, down 2 points. Global cues remain mixed, with Wall Street ending almost unchanged and Asian markets showing a divergent trend, while elevated US bond yields continue to keep risk appetite restrained. Meanwhile, oil prices remain a key variable as markets track developments around the US-Iran situation and the Strait of Hormuz.

In the previous session on 24th September 2026, Nifty closed at 23,063.10, down 383.70 points (-1.64%), after opening lower at 23,221.80 and failing to sustain the early recovery. Heavy selling dragged the index to an intraday low of 23,046.15, with the index ending near the day’s low and signalling renewed downside pressure.

The short-term structure has weakened significantly after the break below the previous seven-day lows and the 23,070 swing-low zone, accompanied by rising volumes. Immediate support is placed at 22,800–23,000, while resistance is seen at 23,250–23,300.

In the previous session on 24th September 2026, Bank Nifty closed at 55,438.50, down 1,110 points (-1.96%), after opening sharply lower and witnessing relentless selling throughout the session. The index slipped to an intraday low of 55,341 on high volumes, with no meaningful recovery, highlighting significant weakness across the banking space. Immediate support is placed at 55,000–55,200, while resistance is seen at 55,800–56,000.

On 24th September 2026, FIIs remained heavy sellers, offloading equities worth over Rs 5,027 crore, while DIIs continued their buying streak with purchases of around Rs 4,301 crore, providing some domestic institutional support amid the broader market weakness.

The near-term tone is likely to remain cautious following the recent breakdown, though the flat opening indication suggests some pause in selling. Weakness in the underlying structure and elevated external risks warrant a measured approach, with market participants likely to watch whether the indices can stabilise around the newly tested lower levels.
