Indian equity markets ended higher on August 13, 2025, after a volatile trading session. The Sensex gained 304.32 points, or 0.38%, to close at 80,539.91, while the Nifty advanced 131.95 points, or 0.54%, to settle at 24,619.35. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices also rose 0.5% each.

The Nifty opened on a positive note and moved sideways in the first half, before rallying 126 points in the latter part of the session. This was followed by a correction of nearly 45 points, reflecting indecisiveness in the market. Technically, a decisive move above 24,750 could pave the way for an upside toward 24,850, while immediate support lies at 24,500 and 24,330 — both considered attractive zones for fresh long positions. Positive global cues aided sentiment, with buying interest seen across sectors, particularly in auto, metal, and pharma stocks.

The Bank Nifty also opened in the green but remained largely range-bound throughout the day. It has been trading in a narrow range of 55,670–54,900 for the past seven consecutive sessions. A breakout from this range, supported by price action, will likely determine the next directional move. Key supports are at 55,000 and 54,900, while resistance lies in the 55,670–56,000 zone. A convincing breakout above this resistance range could trigger a rally toward the psychological 56,200 level.

The India VIX, a key gauge of market volatility, declined 0.76% to 12.14, indicating reduced uncertainty and improved investor sentiment. In the derivatives segment, the highest call open interest was observed at the 24,700 strike, while the highest put open interest was concentrated at the 24,600 strike. This positioning suggests that while resistance remains near 24,700, traders are anticipating potential upside, with a sustained close above this level required to keep bullish momentum intact.
