The proposed intervention in the third focus area - championing MSMEs are well thought and versed with the sector’s needs and aspirations. India’s legacy sectors hold an immense value for us and their revival and support is equally important as it is to support newer/emerging businesses. Introduction of a scheme to revive 200 legacy industry clusters, who have thinned out due to credit stress and outdated technology is a step in the right direction. It will not only rebuild jobs but also restore forgotten manufacturing zones.
With regards to existing compliance and credit issues, the corporate mitras could be of some relief. Tightening of the trade finance chain by linking geM and TreDS for information sharing will give MSME suppliers visibility on payment cycles, turning these receivables into asset?backed securities and unlocking fresh liquidity for the sector. Boost to self reliant India via allocation of additional INR 2,000 crore and the new 10,000 crore SME Growth fund are a much needed relief and support to the credit-issues of MSMEs. What’s interesting is the focus on skill based businesses and launch of Mahatma Gandhi Gram Swaraj Initiative to strengthen khadi, handloom, and handicraft sectors. This will position India’s unique skill based businesses global positioning and further benefit weavers, village industries, the One District One Product (ODOP) programme, and rural youth.
Sports has always been personally close to my heart. Launch of Khelo India Mission for the systematic development of coaches, support staff, integration of sports science and technology, and promotion of competitions and leagues will help in building a strong sports culture. It is a strong step in building a strong framework for all sports played in our country and establishing us as a great sporting nation.
