Market Ends Range-Bound Amid Mixed Sectoral Cues; RBI Liquidity Measures Lend Support

Indian equity markets witnessed a muted and range-bound session on Wednesday as the benchmark Nifty traded within a narrow band throughout the day. The index marked an intraday high of 26,236 before slipping to a low of 26,123, with mild selling pressure emerging in the second half of the session. Sectorally, buying interest was seen in Media, Realty, Auto, Metals, and CPSE stocks, which outperformed the broader market. On the flip side, Oil & Gas, IT, Pharma, PSU Banks, FMCG, and Healthcare stocks remained under pressure, limiting the upside momentum in the indices.

Participants sentiment found some support after the Reserve Bank of India announced a strong set of liquidity-boosting measures. The central bank unveiled plans to purchase government bonds worth Rs 2 trillion, to be executed in four tranches across December and January. Following the announcement, the yield on India’s 10-year government bond eased below 6.6%, retreating from a nine-month high.

On the global front, optimism was supported by data showing the U.S. economy expanding at a robust 4.3% in the third quarter, indicating resilience in global growth. In the derivatives segment, a notable open interest build-up was observed in stocks such as Manappuram, Syngene, Coal India, Nuvama, and Coforge, pointing towards active participation . On the Nifty options front for the monthly expiry, the highest call open interest is concentrated at the 26,200 and 26,300 strikes, while on the put side, 26,200 and 26,000 strikes hold the maximum open interest. These levels are expected to act as key resistance and support zones, respectively, in the near term.
