On October 6, Indian equity markets closed on a strong positive note, with sustained upward momentum throughout the session. At close, the Sensex advanced 582.95 points, or 0.72 percent, to settle at 81,790.12, while the Nifty gained 183.40 points, or 0.74 percent, to end at 25,077.65. Market breadth remained firmly positive, with 2,672 shares advancing, 1,284 declining, and 132 remaining unchanged.

The Nifty 50 opened on a flat note but maintained bullish momentum, eventually closing in the green with a strong bullish candle. From a technical standpoint, a sustained move above 25,115 could open the door for a rally toward 25,250 and 25,350. On the downside, immediate support is placed at 25,018 and 24,900, which may act as potential entry zones for long trades.

Among sectors, IT led the gains with a 2 percent rise, followed by healthcare, which gained 1 percent. The private banking index climbed 1.2 percent, oil & gas rose 0.7 percent, and PSU banks added 0.4 percent. On the flip side, metal, media, and FMCG indices slipped between 0.3–0.9 percent.

The Bank Nifty mirrored the broader market strength, closing 515 points higher and signaling signs of a short-term recovery. On the downside, key support is placed at 55,600, and a break below this level could drag the index toward 55,400 and 55,000. On the upside, resistance is seen at 56,200–56,400, with a breakout above this zone likely to extend the rally toward 57,000.

Meanwhile, the India VIX — a key gauge of market volatility — inched up by 1.32 percent to 10.19, indicating subdued volatility despite lingering uncertainty. In the derivatives segment, open interest (OI) data showed the highest call writing at the 25,100 strike, while maximum put OI was concentrated at the 25,000 level. This setup suggests strong resistance near 25,100 in the near term.
