“Despite prevailing negative sentiment around the Nifty 50, September’s mutual fund data highlights the resilience of India’s domestic investor base amid market corrections and global macroeconomic uncertainties. Equity-oriented mutual funds attracted net inflows of Rs38,307 crore during the month, with investor flows remaining remarkably strong in the small- and mid-cap segments. Small-cap funds attracted Rs9,039 crore, while mid-cap funds garnered Rs7,835 crore, his continued participation suggests that retail investors remain positive on India’s long-term growth opportunity, particularly across the mid- and small-cap segments.
Notably, monthly SIP contributions rose to a record Rs32,490 crore, reinforcing the trend of disciplined investing despite market volatility. Total Equity-oriented mutual fund inflows increased approximately 31% month-on-month, reflecting sustained investor participation even as market sentiment remained subdued.
The strength of flows across equity categories suggests that retail investors are continuing to invest through the correction rather than retreating from equities.Passive investing also remained strong, with equity ETFs attracting Rs9,960 crore, while gold ETFs received Rs4,451 crore, indicating continued interest in diversification.
Overall, the data suggests that negative market sentiment has not materially dented investor appetite for small- and mid-cap opportunities. Investors should remain disciplined, diversify across market capitalisations and align equity exposure with their investment horizon rather than chase recent flows.”
