Priyanka Chaturvedi welcomes withdrawal of Sanchar Saathi app, cites `constitutional concerns`
On Government removing mandatory pre-installation of Sanchar Saathi App, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said, "I welcome this. When I raised this issue, I was saying again and again that pre-loading any app, especially a Govt app, is against the Constitution. It is infringing on the privacy of the people. Had we approached the Supreme Court, the Court would have dismissed it and issued a take-down directive. When the issue was raised, the Telecom Minister had said that this is an unnecessary controversy. When his lies were exposed, they withdrew it. It is clear that an experiment was being done. They had first released Pegasus against journalists; it was a surveillance system. Then there was the issue of hacking of our phones; it was said that state-sponsored surveillance is being done. Then they thought of collecting data of all those who purchase mobile phone in our 140 crore population. The app could record everything and had access to everything. They had turned this into a Big Boss house. I welcome its withdrawal."
