As the Indian government prepares for the annual Union Budget, various sectors of society, including the common man, eagerly anticipate measures that could impact their daily lives. For the lower and middle-income groups, the budget is an opportunity for the government to address their economic concerns and improve their quality of life. Here are the key expectations from the perspective of the common man, especially the poor:

1. Income Tax Relief


Increase in Tax Slabs: Many expect a revision of income tax slabs to reduce the tax burden on the lower and middle-income groups. A higher exemption limit would mean more take-home income for those struggling to make ends meet.

Tax Deductions: Taxpayers hope for enhanced deductions on various expenses like health insurance, home loans, and education. This would allow individuals to save more money.

Simplified Tax System: A simpler, more transparent tax filing process is also a common expectation, as many people find the current system cumbersome and confusing.

2. Subsidies and Welfare Schemes

Food and Fuel Subsidies: The poor often rely on government subsidies for essential items like food and fuel. A continuation or increase in subsidies, especially on LPG cylinders and public distribution system (PDS) items, is a key expectation.
 

Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT): Expansion of DBT schemes that directly transfer subsidies into bank accounts could be another important expectation. This would ensure that benefits reach the intended recipients without middlemen.
 

3. Affordable Healthcare
 

Healthcare Budget Increase: The common man expects a significant allocation for healthcare in the budget. Better public healthcare facilities, subsidized medicines, and more government-funded health insurance schemes would provide relief, especially to those who cannot afford private medical care.
