“It was a long pending demand and expectations of the industry to reduce the GST. Finally, the same has been realised to a large extent and it is likely to propel demand and also ease inflation. This could have a multiplier impact on the interest rates. Now the key figures to watch will be the likely impact on the fiscal deficit and GST collections. Data for 3rd quarter will be very interesting to keep track. From investors perspective this is a great boost to consumption and could likely result in lower interest rates which could be a positive for home loan EMIs. Consumption; FMCG; BFSI segment can see benefits coming in. Life and general insurance companies would also stand to benefit provided there is not much increase the premiums (they would lose input tax credit). Covering a larger population can lead to enhanced coverage of insurance. Luxury cars and Bigger SUVs have been kept out of the GST benefit.”
