Organic Recycling Systems (ORSL) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Advanced Materials business of Aditya Birla Chemicals (Thailand), part of the Aditya Birla Group, to establish a sustainable composite recycling value chain. Aditya Birla Group’s global reach and manufacturing expertise will align with ORSL’s expertise in waste recycling to establish scalable and commercial ecosystems.

Composites, which are made of reinforcing fiber and liquid epoxy resin, offer an unmatched balance of lightweight performance, strength and durability, driving their use across sectors including wind energy, transportation, construction, aerospace and industrial manufacturing. However, conventional thermoset composites are inherently challenging to recycle because their permanently crosslinked resin matrix cannot be broken down to recover valuable raw materials.

Aditya Birla’s Recyclamine epoxy system addresses this challenge as it enables separation of the raw materials during recycling process and their subsequent recovery for potential reuse. ORSL will take the lead in integrating and optimizing composite recycling processes to effectively target a wide range of waste materials, including conventional epoxy-based materials as well as Aditya Birla’s Recyclamine epoxy system, allowing for a closed-loop system.
