Nepal: Hundreds Mark Eid-ul-Fitr with special prayers in Kathmandu Mosque

The courtyards of Nepali Kashmir Jama Masjid in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, were crowded with worshippers as they gathered to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of a month of fasting during Ramadan. As one of the most significant festivals for the Islamic community, people observed the occasion by offering special prayers and exchanging warm greetings. The festival is held after a month-long period of fasting from dawn to dusk throughout Ramadan. On Eid-ul-Fitr, Muslims gather primarily in mosques or open spaces early in the morning for prayers and break their fast with special delicacies. The Government of Nepal has declared a public holiday for the occasion. Eid-ul-Fitr, meaning "the feast of breaking the fast" in Arabic, marks the return to regular eating habits after a month of rigorous fasting.
