India’s 1st Silicon Carbide semiconductor plant to be set up in Odisha under `Make in India` push
India in a historic set to witness its 1st Silicon Carbide (SiC) semiconductor manufacturing plant in Odisha. This will be marking a key step in way to strengthening country’s worldwide presence in Semiconductor sector. SiCSem, an integrated device manufacturer, has received approval from India Semiconductor Mission for establishment in Bhubaneswar This will be established as an Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) facility. Odisha’s Principal Secy of Energy Vishal Kumar Dev called it a "watershed moment" for the state. Rs 2000 Cr project already allotted land, promoters expressed satisfaction with support received from both Central, Odisha govt. Mr. Dev noted that the project will boost industrial growth in Bhubaneswar and attract further investments in semiconductor space. The state has substantially revised its semiconductor and IT policies, introducing new operational guidelines. Additionally, Odisha is bringing out policies for Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and FinTech, and has already launched India's 1st AI policy. With these developments, Odisha aims to establish Bhubaneswar as a leading hub for semiconductor & electronics industries.
