First Advance Estimates of Area, Production and Yield of Major Kharif Crops of Gujarat State for the year 2024-25 by Amit Gupta, Kedia Advisory

The 2024-25 Kharif season in Gujarat shows promising agricultural output across key crops. Rice leads in food grains with 2232.33 thousand tonnes, while maize yields 2022.15 kg/ha. Pulses, particularly Tur and Mung, show strong yields at 1195.75 kg/ha and 589.81 kg/ha, respectively. Groundnut dominates oil seeds with 3026.31 kg/ha. Cotton, the major cash crop, spans 2364.95 thousand hectares, producing 8831.46 thousand bales. Overall, the state's total oil seeds and pulses production remains steady, driven by favorable yields and a significant production area.

 

Highlights

Rice Production: Rice is grown on 879.57 thousand hectares with an estimated production of 2232.33 thousand tonnes, yielding 2537.97 kg per hectare.

 

Jowar and Bajra: Jowar is cultivated on 17.10 thousand hectares, yielding 1333.93 kg/ha, while Bajra is grown on 166.47 thousand hectares with a yield of 1786.66 kg/ha.

 

Maize and Millets: Maize occupies 287.63 thousand hectares, yielding 2022.15 kg/ha. Small millets are grown on 3.51 thousand hectares, yielding 679.66 kg/ha.

 

Tur, Udad, and Mung: Tur (Red Gram) has a yield of 1195.75 kg/ha, Udad produces 618.66 kg/ha, while Mung (Green Gram) yields 589.81 kg/ha.

 

Total Pulses: Gujarat’s total pulses production spans 391.69 thousand hectares with a yield of 963.69 kg/ha, producing 377.47 thousand tonnes.

 

Oil Seeds Production: Groundnut is the dominant oil seed, grown on 1917.74 thousand hectares, yielding 3026.31 kg/ha. Soyabean and Castor seed yield 1790.40 kg/ha and 2270.13 kg/ha, respectively.

 

Total Oil Seeds: Oil seeds cover 2849.40 thousand hectares with a total yield of 2696.43 kg/ha, producing 7683.21 thousand tonnes.

 

Cotton: Cotton occupies 2364.95 thousand hectares with a production of 8831.46 thousand bales, yielding 634.83 kg/ha of lint.

 

Guar Seeds: Grown on 77.64 thousand hectares, guar seed production is estimated at 60.92 thousand tonnes, with a yield of 784.63 kg/ha.

 

Cash Crops Overview: In addition to cotton and guar seeds, tobacco is grown on 54.21 thousand hectares, yielding 1941.49 kg/ha, producing 105.25 thousand tonnes.
