Deeply shocked` Shashi Tharoor after Qatar Court gives verdict of death penalty for 8 Indians
Calling the passing of death sentence for eight Indians in Qatar “a matter of anguish”, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that he hopes Qatar will go back on their verdict in the interest of better relations with India. “I am deeply shocked. This is a matter of anguish. It becomes indispensable that the government does what is necessary. We have decent relations with Qatar. This entire case has been shrouded in mystery since the people were arrested in August 2022. We cannot accept that Indian citizens are sentenced to death for a reason unknown to us. The entire trail was behind closed doors. No one knows the reason behind the sentencing. I hope the Indian government will take this up with the highest level of authorities in Qatar so as a result we have a satisfactory outcome. It is essential that these people are brought back home as soon as possible. We need to know more about their arrest and trial. We hope that the government of Qatar, in the interest of good relations with India, will modify this outcome and release the individuals,” said MP Tharoor while speaking to ANI on
