"Retail inflation data for January jumped to a 3 month high of 6.52% owing to a rise in food prices which increased by 5.94%. The rural retail inflation was up by 6.65%, while the urban inflation was up by 4.79 % in January. Inflation in cereals and products rose by 16.12 %, while spices rose by 21.09 per cent. However, the inflation declined for vegetables by 11.7 per cent. The retail inflation is higher for fuel and light at 10.84%, clothing and footwear at 9.08%. For food and beverages, the retail inflation rose by 6.19% and housing rose by 4.62%. The government has initiated several steps like rise in acreage of rabi crops, improved fertiliser availability and healthy reservoir storage"
