* Domestic logistics activity was stable in Jun’23, with daily average e-way bill generations increasing ~1% MoM. Fleet utilization stood at 80-85% during the month. Daily average FASTag toll collections declined ~1% MoM in Jun’23.

* EXIM container volumes handled by the Indian Railways decreased 11.2% YoY, with its market share in EXIM containers declining to 32% as of Jun’23 (from 34% in Jun’22). Overall container volumes handled at ports decreased ~7% YoY during the month.

* Volumes handled at major ports marginally rose 0.5% YoY to 66.2mmt. Iron Ore/Fertilizer volume grew ~74%/55% YoY, while Coal/Container dipped ~13%/7% YoY.

* Diesel consumption decreased ~1% MoM to 8.1m tonnes in Jun’23.

Daily average e-way bill generations up ~1% MoM; daily average FASTag toll collections down ~1% MoM

Logistics activity was flat in Jun’23 following a marginal pickup in May’23 on MoM basis. Daily average e-way bill generations increased ~1% MoM and clocked a rate of ~2.9m/day in Jun’23. E-way bill generations jumped ~16% YoY, with intra-state bill generations up ~19% YoY and inter-state rising 10% YoY. Daily average FASTag toll collections declined 1.2% MoM to INR1.73b/day.

Rail EXIM container volumes decrease ~11% YoY; market share of Indian Railways in container traffic declines on YoY basis

While overall container volumes handled at ports fell ~7% YoY, EXIM container volumes handled by the Indian Railways decreased ~11% YoY in Jun’23. The Railways’ market share in EXIM containers decreased to 32% in Jun’23 (from 34% in Jun’22). Domestic container volumes handled by the Indian Railways also decreased ~6% YoY.

Traffic handled at major ports up 0.4% YoY

Iron Ore/ Fertilizer/P.O.L reported volume growth of ~74%/55%/3% YoY, while Coal/ Container declined 13%/6% YoY in Jun’23. New Mangalore recorded the highest growth in traffic (+11% YoY) followed by Mormugao (+10% YoY), and Mumbai (+9% YoY). Major ports that recorded a decline in Jun’23 were V.O. Chidambaranar (- 14.2% YoY), Chennai (-8.6% YoY), and JNPT (-8.5% YoY). Container cargo fell ~4% YoY on a TEU basis.
