Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki are the sole carmakers offering CNG models in the Indian market. Here are the top 5 models that you can consider in this regard. 

In spite of the Central Government and carmakers shifting their attention to electric models, full electrification is still some time away. The country has already implemented strict BS-VI regulations. The most affordable method of lowering overall carbon footprint is investing in a CNG model. Here are 5 models that you can check out at the moment in this category. 

1.Maruti Suzuki S-Presso

The S-Presso is the smallest model in the company’s portfolio that uses the HEARTECT platform. The SUV-themed hatch comes with LXI, VXI, LXI (O) and VXI (O) CNG variants. Prices are quite reasonable and the 1.0 litre K-Series petrol mill is used that makes 58 BHP and 67 BHP in CNG and petrol modes respectively. Torque figures stand at 78 and 90 Nm respectively as well. There is a 5-speed manual transmission option along with a CNG tank of 55 litres and overall fuel economy of 31.2 km per kg.

 

2.Maruti Suzuki Wagon R

The new WagonR gets the same new platform and S-CNG technologies for LXI and LXI (O) variants. The features are same as the regular models and prices are also competitive. There is the K-Series 1.0 litre petrol mill making the same 58 BHP and 78 Nm in CNG mode. There is a standard 5-speed manual gearbox with a 60 litre CNG tank. Fuel economy stands at an impressive 32.52 km/kg.

 

3.Hyundai Grand i10 Nios

The Grand i10 Nios is fitted with a CNG tank as optional for its Sportz and Magna variants. Prices are slightly on the higher side in comparison to the WagonR or S-Presso CNG models. The CNG versions get 1.2 litre Kappa petrol mills churning out 68 BHP and 95 Nm with a 5-speed manual transmission system as standard. CNG tank capacity stands at 60 litres with fuel efficiency standing at 20.7 km/kg.

 

4. Hyundai Aura

The Hyundai Aura is the new generation avatar of the Xcent sub-compact sedan. The Aura has a sole CNG variant for the mid-range S trim and this gets a 1.2 litre Kappa petrol mill making 68 BHP and 95 Nm. There is a standard 5-speed manual transmission system along with a CNG tank of 60 litres along with 28 km/kg in terms of fuel efficiency.

 

4. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is the sole MPV in India which gets a CNG tank fitted by the company. Like other two Maruti Suzuki counterparts in the list, it uses the HEARTECT platform and the CNG option is provided for the mid-range VXI trim. The Ertiga CNG comes at a competitive price point while it gets the K-Series 1.5 litre petrol mill which dishes out 91 BHP and 122 Nm. There is a 5-speed manual transmission system which comes as a standard feature. The Ertiga comes with a 60 litre CNG tank along with 26.08 km/kg in terms of fuel efficiency.
