`Step toward indigenous self-reliance` Nitin Gadkari hails Hero`s First Flex Fuel Motorcycle Launch
On Hero Motocorp's first Flex Fuel Motorcycle launch, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari said, "... This represents a crucial step toward indigenous self-reliance and Atmanirbharta as currently, we remain dependent on foreign nations for fossil fuels to the tune of at least 87%... Hero, a brand that accounts for one out of every three motorcycles sold in the domestic market and contributes to 50% of our two-wheeler exports, has today, for the first time, introduced this technology in two of its models. They have incorporated a 'Flex-Engine' system, which is capable of running on both petrol and ethanol. Indian Oil has already begun setting up ethanol pumps, and the Ministry of Petroleum has plans to expand this network further; consequently, I anticipate a significant reduction in petrol consumption. Most importantly, this initiative will lead to a reduction in pollution, as ethanol is a green fuel.
