On US President Donald Trump's statement, former diplomat Mahesh Sachdev says, "I think Trump has to be given some credit for this. The United States, thanks to the 'drill, baby, drill' program in the first term and continuing now, has become self-reliant in oil and gas. It's become an exporter of these commodities. Moreover, Venezuela is now under Trump's control, with the government being a pliable government sympathetic to the US persuasions in power... What he said is somewhat exaggerated, but factually correct... There is no alternative to the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the restoration of normal oil production conditions in the Gulf. Unless that happens, political and geopolitical risks will continue to be elevated, leading to abnormally high oil prices. These have already risen since Trump's speech... showing that the oil market is a bit disappointed by Trump's words...”
