``Loss worth more than 1500 Cr`` Surat Textile traders outlines serious loss due to Dhaka unrest
Due to the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, Surat’s textile industry is being severely affected. According to traders, the chaos in Bangladesh is causing an annual loss of nearly ?1,500 crore. Over the past year, continuous instability in Bangladesh has meant that payments for goods traded have still not been received.
Trade from Surat to Bangladesh largely takes place via Kolkata, though several traders also deal directly with Bangladesh. However, with outstanding payments now unlikely to be recovered, traders are deeply worried.
Meanwhile, following recent incidents of assault and killings of Hindus in Bangladesh, anger is growing among textile traders. Many say that while concerns over financial losses have taken a back seat, the violence against Hindus is unacceptable. Traders claim that India played a key role in the creation of Bangladesh, and it is not acceptable that the country is now showing hostility. They add that even if losses continue, Bangladesh should now be taught a lesson.
