Indian benchmark indices are expected to start the day on feeble note on Wednesday indicated by the SGX Nifty, which was down 94 points at 15,234, at 7:30 AM, on the back of weak global cues. With no major domestic trigger to work with, investors are likely to remain stock-specific while foreign fund flow, oil price movement, and the Rupee's trajectory will also be tracked.
On the result front, Pasupati Spinning, Sanghvi Forging and Engineering, SR Industries, Uniply Decor and Uniply Industries are set to announce their quarterly earnings today.
On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 52104.17 down by -49.96 points or by -0.1 % and then NSE Nifty was at 15313.45 down by -1.25 points or by -0.01 %. On the global front, the Wall Street registered a mixed close overnight. The Dow Jones scored another record closing high on Tuesday, climbing 0.2 per cent. The S&P 500 fell 0.06 per cent, and the Nasdaq fell 0.34 per cent.
The Asian markets, meanwhile, witnessed a rather subdued start. Australia’s benchmark ASX 200 index was down 0.6 per cent in early trading, while Japan’s Nikkei and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index fell 0.7 per cent, each. On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 407211 with a total turnover of Rs. 40917.00 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 883882 with a total turnover of Rs. 84581.52 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 33172592 with a total turnover of Rs. 3334378.47 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 2074776 with a total turnover of Rs. 200871.32 Crore.
The FIIs on 16/02/2021 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 5753.07 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1449.31 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 3834.35 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 825.16 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1918.72 Crore and Rs. 624.15
