Below the Weekly FII and DII Commentary for 22nd August 2026 by Pabitro Mukherjee, Deputy Vice President-Research, Bajaj Broking
FII AND DII WEEKLY ACTIVITY: 22-08-26
FIIs ended the week under review as net sellers of Rs16.02bn , an aggregate that masks a distinctly uneven pattern of activity - selling in the opening session, buying across the two sessions that followed, and a reversion to selling over the final two days. DIIs, by contrast, were net buyers on each of the five trading days, deploying Rs173.2bn . Over the extended period from 20 July to 21 August, FIIs were sellers in the first week, buyers over the next three, and sellers again in the current week. However, their cumulative activity resulted in net purchases of Rs 12.82bn for the period. DIIs remained net buyers in every week of that window, aggregating Rs 483.9bn. August MTD, both have been positioned on the same side of the market, with FIIs adding Rs 25.1bn and DIIs Rs 343.7bn.
Benchmark Indices traded in a range with corrective bias for the second week in a row as elevated crude oil prices above $92 and continued tensions between the US and Iran remain key concerns for the market. Nifty started the week on a negative note and formed an intra-week low of 24,026 on Wedneaday session. However, pullback in the last two sessions of the week saw the index closing off the lows at 24,252 levels down by 0.5%. Broader market relatively outperformed with Nifty Midcap 100 index closing the week on a flat note. While the Nifty small cap 100 index outperformed and formed a fresh all time high to close the week higher by more than 1%.
In the coming week investors will closely track crude oil price movements and developments in the ongoing US-Iran geopolitical tensions for further direction in the market.
