Rupee weakens against US dollar in early trade on Tuesday
The Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday, weighed by elevated Brent crude prices near $98 per barrel following an extended Middle East conflict and concerns over a possible US Federal Reserve interest rate hike this month, while global markets are closely monitoring upcoming US and Indian CPI reports as well as the FOMC meeting scheduled for September 15-16, 2026. However, ongoing RBI dollar sales and strong foreign-currency inflows under special schemes limited further falls in the rupee. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) purchased equities worth Rs 280.13 crore on a net basis on Monday, exchange data showed.
The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 94.69, weaker by 13 paise from its previous close of 94.56 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 94.70 and 94.49 respectively.
