Rupee weakens against US dollar in early trade on Tuesday

The Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday, breached the key $96 level, pressured by elevated crude oil prices following uncertainty surrounding the ongoing US-Iran war. Besides, rising US Treasury yields, mounting expectations of further Federal Reserve tightening, and persistent capital outflows from foreign institutional investors (FIIs) also weighed on rupee sentiment. FIIs offloaded equities worth Rs 5,353.22 crore on a net basis on Monday, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 96.07, weaker by 10 paise from its previous close of 95.97 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 96.15 and 96.02 respectively.
