The Karnataka Budget outlines a welcome and balanced approach to strengthening the state’s healthcare ecosystem, with emphasis on preventive care, infrastructure expansion, and digital transformation. The reported 24% reduction in maternal mortality under the Mission Zero Preventable Maternal Death Initiative reflects the value of targeted public health interventions and continuous audit systems. Programs such as Anaemia Muktha Poushtika Karnataka and expanded neonatal and nutrition services demonstrate a clear focus on early-life health, which is critical for long-term population wellbeing.

The government’s decision to revise treatment package rates under the Ayushman Bharat–Arogya Karnataka scheme using HBP-2022 rates is particularly significant. This move, supported by an additional Rs 400 crore allocation, will improve access to quality care for economically vulnerable populations and enable better participation from healthcare providers.

Equally encouraging are the investments in infrastructure, including Rs 900 crore for strengthening health facilities, upgrades of emergency and trauma care services, and expansion of dialysis centres. The introduction of a Public Health Cadre and digitization initiatives through the Samasta mobile application represent important structural reforms that can improve governance, data-driven decision making, and continuity of care.

Overall, the budget signals a strong commitment to improving access, affordability, and quality of healthcare in Karnataka. Continued collaboration between government and private healthcare providers will be essential to translate these investments into measurable health outcomes for citizens. The other notable features are addition of 450 bedded hospital in Karwar and a much needed 1000 bedded organ transplant facility

Overall under the circumstances a 7/10 performance for the health care
