Indian equities are likely to remain in consolidation mode, given mixed global cues and key events ahead. Globally release of US Q2 GDP data, Inflation numbers and Nvidia’s earnings announcement would be keenly tracked. On the domestic front, fall in crude oil prices and FII buying (+?1,593 crore) are supporting sentiments. Brent crude extended its decline to around US$86/bbl (-2%), its lowest level in over two weeks, after Iran and Oman discussed an interim framework to resume shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, easing concerns over potential supply disruptions. Lower crude prices remain supportive for domestic equities, the rupee and the inflation outlook. On Wednesday, the Nifty 50 pared early gains to end 0.5% lower at 24,207, despite opening in green on softer crude prices and positive Asian cues. IT, FMCG and Consumer durables weighed on the benchmark, while broader markets were mixed with the Nifty Midcap 100 declining 0.1% and the Nifty Smallcap 100 advancing 0.8%. Cement, Metals and Chemicals outperformed and Nifty PSU Banks extended gains for the second consecutive session, rising around 1%. Foreign flows provided some support, however, the narrowing India-US 10-year bond yield spread remains a monitorable for the rupee, RBI policy and foreign flows, a theme that has persisted through the week.
