Indian equities are expected to remain lacklustre amid mixed global cues and a lack of domestic triggers. Geopolitical tensions remain elevated amid the prospect of fresh US sanctions on Iran, while sectoral and news-specific action is likely to remain in focus. Domestic equities ended mixed, with the Nifty 50 declining 0.1%, while the Midcap100 gained 0.1% and Smallcap100 declined 0.3%. The Nifty Metal index gained 1.6%, supported by strong global commodity prices including copper, aluminium and zinc. The US Treasury's decision to expand its long-term bond buyback programme weakened the US dollar and supported precious metals. The Nifty PSU Bank index declined 0.9%, emerging as the weakest sector amid broad-based profit booking following recent gains. The government notified the ?62,500-crore mobile manufacturing incentive scheme, offering incentives for handset production, local sourcing and Indian brands, supporting domestic manufacturing and localisation. Nifty-500 earnings grew 19% YoY in 1QFY27, the strongest growth in 15 quarters. Smallcaps led the performance, with Nifty Smallcap-250 earnings growing 35% YoY, followed by Midcap-150 at 30% and Largecaps at 20%, pointing to continued opportunities in the broader market.
