Nifty is expected to trade sideways with a marginal negative bias amid escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia and higher crude prices. With the Q1FY27 earnings season nearing its end, investors are expected to shift their focus towards macro indicators and global developments going forward. Key data due tomorrow includes India WPI, EU GDP and US retail sales, while results from Ashok Leyland, NMDC and Alkem Laboratories are also due. Domestic equities ended marginally lower, with the Nifty 50 declining 0.2%, while the Midcap100 gained 0.2% and Smallcap100 gained 0.2%. Brent crude traded at USD 88.25/bbl as the US and Iran remained at loggerheads over efforts to reach a permanent end to the Gulf conflict. India's CPI inflation rose to 4.5% YoY in July from 4.4% in June, marking the second consecutive month above the RBI's 4% target, driven by higher food prices. WPI manufacturing inflation rose to 7.5% in June from 4.8% in March, driven by higher crude oil and industrial metal prices, indicating continued cost pressures for industries. The RBI proposed draft loan-pricing guidelines requiring floating-rate loans to reset within three months to improve rate transmission. While positive for borrowers, faster repricing could pressure banks' NIMs, particularly if deposit costs decline more slowly than lending rates.
