“The consensus on gold for the next 2-3 years seems to be upward. The consensus on inflation and interest over the same period also seems to be upward. However, both cannot happen simultaneously. In our view, central banks are a likely major buyer of gold, but simultaneously there could be significant sellers who offload at the same time keeping gold prices in check. For India, the festive season as well as the wedding season is coming. This typically drives gold prices upward. However, given the likelihood of Fed rate hikes, the gold prices globally are likely to remain under pressure. Indian gold prices are likely to see a small festive season surge but remain stable post that.”
