• States' revenue growth to accelerate 9-11% as GST collections rise 16% in first five months: Revenue growth for 18 major Indian states is projected to accelerate to 9 to 11% in fiscal 2027, taking combined revenues past Rs44 lakh crore, according to Crisil Ratings. This financial expansion is driven primarily by a 12–13% rise in GST collections supported by robust consumption and import gains alongside an 11 to 12% increase in tax devolution from the Centre. Stable growth in liquor, petroleum, and stamp duty taxes will further reinforce state balance sheet.

Global News

• Dollar steadies near two-month high as rate-hike bets support the greenback, while easing oil prices offer some relief to inflation concerns: The US dollar remained near a two-month high at 100.56 as expectations of further Federal Reserve rate hikes supported the currency, while the euro weakened to $1.1446 and sterling stood at $1.3337. Easing Brent crude prices near $99.22, on hopes of a diplomatic breakthrough to end the Middle East conflict, provided some relief to inflation concerns, although uncertainty remained high. Markets are also focused on the upcoming Trump-Xi meeting and the potential for further global policy shifts. Meanwhile, the yen weakened to 157.55 per dollar as the Bank of Japan’s recent rate hike was viewed as insufficiently hawkish, keeping intervention risks in focus, particularly with USD/JPY approaching.
