The Kuwaiti army said Monday that its air defence systems were intercepting “hostile” drone attacks from Iran. Treasury yields eased off last week as investors digested a raft of data releases indicating that the U.S. economy continues to withstand inflationary pressures caused by the Iran war.Last week’s slide in borrowing costs followed cooler-thanexpected producer and consumer price data, while U.S. jobless claims for the week ending July 11 came in lower than forecasted, at a seasonally-adjusted 208,000.

Global News
• Dollar holds near one-week high as Middle East tensions boost safehaven demand despite ceasefire hopes: The U.S. dollar traded near a oneweek high on Tuesday as investors weighed escalating Middle East tensions against hopes for a ceasefire, keeping demand for safe-haven assets elevated. The dollar index remained steady at 100.96, while the yen, euro and pound were largely unchanged. Oil prices stayed volatile near six-week highs after Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis announced a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, raising concerns over global energy supplies, although reports of a 10-day ceasefire proposal for Iran offered some relief. Rising oil prices also pushed U.S. Treasury yields higher, with the 10-year yield around 4.59%, as traders assessed the risk of renewed inflation pressures. Meanwhile, the New Zealand dollar strengthened on stronger-than-expected inflation data, the ECB is widely expected to keep rates unchanged this week despite growing bets of a September rate hike, and the Canadian dollar stabilized after recent U.S. tariffs on Canadian imports.
