"The USA tighten work permit rules for certain categories. Automatic extension of Employment Authorization Documents (EAD) pending with the authorities for renewal is no more available.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of the USA has issued an interim final rule that will affect work authorization for many foreign nationals holding or renewing Employment Authorization Documents (EADs). Previously, DHS allowed an automatic extension of up to 540 days of employment authorization for certain EAD renewals filed timely. EAD renewal applications filed on or after October 30, 2025, will not receive any automatic extension of work authorization beyond the current EAD’s expiry.

It is recommended that impacted category of foreigners working in the USA should file EAD renewals as early as possible (ideally up to six months before expiry) as the leeway of working upto 540 days post filing for extension is no more available. Under new regulation, if EAD card is not renewed before expiry, you may not be able to work in the US."
