ICAT issues 1st compliance certificate for 15-metre multi-axle sleeper bus
The International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) has issued its first compliance certificate for a 15-metre multi-axle sleeper bus, marking a significant milestone in the testing and certification of advanced passenger transport vehicles in India, the Ministry of Heavy Industries said on Wednesday.
The certificate, issued under AIS-119 and AIS-153 in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR), has been awarded to Synaty Automotive Pvt. Ltd. for its 15-metre multi-axle sleeper bus.
The certification represents an important development in the evaluation of one of the longest permissible bus-body configurations in the passenger transport segment.
The certificate was formally handed over by Saurabh Dalela, Director, ICAT, to Naresh Kumar Yadav, Managing Director, Synaty Automotive Pvt. Ltd., in the presence of senior ICAT officials.
Designed primarily for long-distance passenger transportation, the bus incorporates features aimed at enhancing structural strength, emergency safety, fire protection, passenger movement and overall travel comfort.
The fully sleeper variant can accommodate 42 berths, while the hybrid configuration offers 21 berths along with 42 seats.
The vehicle underwent testing and certification against applicable requirements covering vehicle safety, structural integrity, passenger accommodation and comfort, as prescribed under relevant automotive standards and the CMVR.
The certification under AIS-119 and AIS-153 also highlights ICAT's capability to assess advanced passenger vehicle configurations and assist manufacturers in meeting regulatory and technical requirements.
The development comes at a time when demand for safer and more comfortable long-distance passenger transport solutions is growing across the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Saurabh Dalela said the certification was a significant achievement for ICAT and demonstrated the organisation's technical capabilities in testing and certifying advanced passenger vehicles.
He said the milestone reinforced ICAT's commitment to passenger safety, regulatory compliance and technological advancement, adding that the organisation would continue to support the automotive industry in developing safer, more reliable and technologically advanced mobility solutions.
Naresh Kumar Yadav expressed appreciation for the certification and said the achievement would strengthen Synaty Automotive's efforts to develop safe, reliable and comfortable solutions for long-distance passenger transportation.
