Delhi government doubles gas cylinders for migrant labourers to 1,368 cylinders

Under Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s instruction, the government has enhanced commercial LPG availability, doubling allocation for migrant labourers and students from 180 to 360 cylinders daily (19 kg equivalent), an official said.

This follows the revised order allocating a total of 6,480 cylinders (19kg equivalent) across sectors, with essential services like health establishments, PSU/Govt institutions, hotels/restaurants/dhabas/food processing, and others fully prioritised on a first-come-first-served basis.

Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have been instructed to maintain the overall daily limit of 6,480 cylinders strictly, reallocating any surplus from one category to others under intimation to the Department.

“We are committed to fair distribution, no room for false rumours. Inspections are ongoing statewide; anyone involved in hoarding or black marketing faces immediate criminal action,” Minister for Food Supplies Manjinder Singh Sirsa emphasised.

The Department of Food & Supplies has issued operational clarifications enhancing efficiency in LPG distribution. Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) may now allocate flexibly across categories—without rigid percentage constraints—provided all valid category demands are met first, and surplus is reallocated with intimation to the Department.

Sirsa said for migrant labourers, 5kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders are distributed via authorised agencies with robust safeguards: mandatory Aadhaar verification, OMC-maintained centralised beneficiary database to prevent duplication/misuse, and a 7-day minimum interval between issuances to the same individual.

Priority sectors include educational/health establishments (225 cylinders), Govt Institutions/PSU/Subsidised Community kitchens/Industrial Canteens (225 cylinders), Hotel/Restaurants/Dhabas/Food Sector including food processing units (3375 cylinders), caterers/banquets (225 cylinders), labour-intensive industries like automobile/textile/dye/chemicals/plastics/glass/power/pharma (1800 cylinders), and sports facilities/stadiums (270 cylinders).

“Thanks to PM Narendra Modi’s support, CM Gupta’s oversight, and these strengthened safeguards, rumours of unavailability are baseless. Migrant workers can access supplies seamlessly with Aadhaar. Book your LPG only through authorised Oil Marketing Companies, consider switching to PNG where available, and report any issues without delay,” Sirsa added, urging PNG applications for long-term reliability.

The public is reassured of uninterrupted supply; daily OMC coordination ensures real-time monitoring. Needy people and Vulnerable groups continue accessing 5kg cylinders seamlessly.
