Market Outlook:  Indian equities are likely to open on a mildly cautious note, with Gift Nifty down 0.05% despite positive overnight cues from the US, where the S&P 500 gained 0.4%, Dow Jones rose 1.0% and Nasdaq 100 advanced 0.3%. Domestic market breadth remained supportive, with the NSE advance-decline ratio at 2,095:1,394 and BSE at 1,885:1,634. Nifty closed at 24,252, with immediate support at 24,210/24,170 and resistance at 24,288/24,325.

 

FII & DII Activity: FIIs remained net sellers in the cash market at ?543 crore, with gross purchases of ?12,561 crore against sales of ?13,104 crore. DIIs continued to provide support with net purchases of ?2,124 crore, recording gross buying of ?15,259 crore versus sales of ?13,135 crore. In derivatives, FIIs continued to hold a sizeable net short index-futures position of around 2,09,855 contracts, alongside call buying of 50,940 contracts and put shorting of 48,966 contracts.

 

Sector Activity: Sectoral performance remained mixed. Nifty Metal led gains with a 0.9% rise, followed by Nifty PSE and Private Bank at 0.5% each, while Financial Services, Services and Consumer Durables gained 0.2%. On the weaker side, Nifty FMCG declined 0.7%, Auto fell 0.6%, IT declined 0.5% and Consumption was down 0.4%.

 

F&O Activity: Nifty options saw maximum Call OI at 24,300 and Put OI at 24,000, with PCR at 1.04. Sensex maximum Call and Put OI stood at 77,600 and 77,500, respectively, with PCR at 1.04, while Bank Nifty recorded maximum Call OI at 58,000 and Put OI at 57,000 with a lower PCR of 0.753. At the stock level, long buildup was visible in Zydus Life, Coal India, Tata Elxsi and Hindustan Zinc; short buildup in Astral, Angel One, IndiGo and Force Motors; long unwinding in Dalmia Bharat, IRFC, SAIL and IREDA; and short covering in BDL, Jubilant FoodWorks, ICICI Prudential Life and Godfrey Phillips.
