Daily Market Update - 12th October 2026 - Ventura Securities Ltd
Market Outlook: Indian markets are expected to open on a positive note, with Gift Nifty up 347.5 points (+1.56%) following gains across US markets, where S&P 500, Dow Jones and Nasdaq 100 rose 0.59%, 0.83% and 0.51%, respectively. On 9th October, Nifty gained 1.30% to 22,520 and Sensex rose 1.23%, supported by renewed buying interest and short covering. However, the broader trend remains cautious, with Nifty still below its 200-SMA. The immediate support zone is around 22,350–22,180, while 22,635 and 22,750 are the key resistance levels.
FII & DII Activity: Foreign institutional selling remained elevated, with FIIs selling Rs 3,568.9 crore on 9th October, while DIIs remained strong buyers with purchases of Rs 4,743.3 crore. Although domestic institutional buying continues to cushion the impact of foreign outflows, persistent FII selling remains a key overhang for the market. The continued weakness in the rupee near Rs 96.8/$ also remains an important risk factor for foreign flows and overall market sentiment.
Sector Activity: Sectoral performance was broadly positive, led by Nifty IT (+3.02%), FMCG (+2.20%), Auto (+1.42%), Financial Services (+1.33%) and Bank (+1.36%). IT was the strongest performer, driven by Persistent Systems (+5.52%) and LTM (+3.96%), while Auto gained on strength in Eicher Motors (+4.17%) and TMPV (+2.53%). Pharma rose 0.54%, whereas Oil & Gas was the only major sector in the red, declining 0.09%.
Long, Short, Long Unwinding & Short Covering: Fresh long build-up was visible in GMR Airport (+5.2% price, +8.1% OI), Inox Wind (+6.8%, +1.4%), Persistent Systems (+5.5%, +4.0%), Colpal (+4.7%, +7.0%) and ICICI Lombard (+4.1%, +5.6%). Short build-up was seen in Ujjivan SFB (-1.4%, +27.7% OI), Enr India (-2.5%, +20.2%), Anand Rathi Wealth (-4.7%, +7.3%), TI India (-1.3%, +5.0%) and DMart (-1.9%, +4.3%). Long unwinding was seen in 360ONE, while short covering was witnessed in TCS, LTM, Blue Star, Godfrey Phillips and Ambuja Cements. Overall, the derivatives setup indicates improving risk appetite in select stocks, although significant short build-up remains in Ujjivan SFB, Enr India and Anand Rathi Wealth.
