Bullion Update
Global markets faced heightened volatility as WTI crude oil topped $100 per barrel amid geopolitical supply disruptions and pipeline shutdowns. Anticipation of a likely 25-basis-point Federal Reserve rate hike propelled the dollar and pushed U.S. 10-year Treasury yields to 5%, pressuring bullion into bearish territory on MCX and dragging the rupee to a seven-week low.
Crude Oil
MCX Crude oil prices rose around 2% as escalating geopolitical risks and supply disruptions fuelled market volatility. The continued shutdown of Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline following drone attacks, coupled with the abrupt postponement of regional diplomatic talks, strained energy security. Tanker transits through the critical Strait of Hormuz plunged to single digits. Heightened friction around the Strait of Hormuz—including reports of an exploding super tanker—further rattled investors, despite U.S. President Trump’s claims of an agreement between Moscow and Kyiv to cease strikes on energy infrastructure.
