BPCL Champions Sporting Excellence at 7th PSPB Inter-Unit Squash Meet
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a Fortune Global 500 company and a Maharatna PSU, is hosting the 7th PSPB Inter-Unit Squash Tournament at the renowned Maharashtra Squash Academy, Undri, bringing together some of the finest squash talent from across the oil and gas sector.
Organised under the aegis of the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), the tournament underscores BPCL’s sustained commitment to promoting sporting excellence and encouraging a competitive sporting culture within the industry.
The tournament was inaugurated by Mr. Thomas James, Head – Retail (West), BPCL, in the presence of Mr. Lalit Watts, Advisor, PSPB, along with senior officials, players, and sports enthusiasts.
Emphasising BPCL’s long-standing commitment to sports development, Mr Deepak Jain, Head of Sports, BPCL, said, “At BPCL, we view nurturing sporting talent as an investment in the nation’s future. Our endeavour is to provide young athletes with the right platform, structured mentoring, and sustained developmental support to help them realise their full potential. Today, we are supporting nearly 100 budding sportspersons through dedicated scholarship programmes, and with the upcoming Sports Academy in Kochi, we aim to institutionalise our grassroots efforts and build a strong, sustainable pathway for sporting excellence.”
The tournament features leading squash players, including Rahul Baitha (India No. 9), Mayyappan (India No. 15), along with BPCL’s promising talent Reiva Nimbalkar, ensuring a high-intensity and competitive showcase of the sport.
This edition also carries special significance as it marks the final PSPB Squash appearance of Mr. Rajkumar Dubey, Director (HR), BPCL, ahead of his superannuation. A distinguished squash player and three-time consecutive Veterans Category Champion at PSPB tournaments, Mr. Dubey’s participation adds an emotional and inspirational dimension to the event.
By hosting national-level tournaments and investing consistently in athlete development, BPCL continues to strengthen India’s sporting ecosystem while reinforcing its belief that excellence in energy and excellence in sport go hand in hand.
