Bajel Projects has been awarded an EPC order for the supply and installation of 220kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substations at Salsette and Powai in Mumbai. The order falls in the Rs 200 crore-Rs 300 crore ‘Major Orders’ category as per the company’s project classification policy (inclusive of GST).

The scope covers the supply and installation of a 220kV GIS at the Salsette receiving station. The scope also covers the supply and installation of a 220kV Outdoor GIS substation at the Powai receiving station. GIS technology needs far lesser space than conventional air-insulated substations.

That makes it the preferred choice for dense urban load centres like Mumbai, where land is scarce and demand keeps rising. Together, the two substations will add capacity and reliability to the city's transmission network.
