Anurag Jain takes charge as new NITI Aayog CEO
NITI Aayog on Monday welcomed Anurag Jain as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking his appointment to one of the key positions in the government’s policy think tank.
A 1989-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, Jain brings nearly four decades of experience in public administration, governance and policymaking. Over the course of his career, he has held several important positions at both the state and central levels.
"NITIAayog welcomes Anurag Jain as the new Chief Executive Officer," it said in a post on social media platform X.
Jain has previously served as the Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh. At the Centre, he has held the position of Secretary in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and also served as Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
His extensive experience in infrastructure, industrial policy, administration and economic development is expected to add further depth to NITI Aayog’s work on policy formulation and implementation. As CEO, Jain will play a key role in supporting the government’s development priorities and strengthening coordination between the Centre and states.
Meanwhile, earlier this year, the government has appointed senior IAS officer Anurag Jain as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog.
The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), according to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
His tenure will be for two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier, under the same terms and conditions that applied to his predecessor.
A 1989-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, Jain has held several important positions in both the Central and state governments during his career.
Earlier in April, the Centre appointed Economist Ashok Kumar Lahiri as the Vice Chairperson of the NITI Aayog. Lahiri replaced Suman K Bery.
