Chief of JPNA Trauma Center Dr. Kamran Farooque spoke with ANI on February 28, regarding data released by Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Center of AIIMS Delhi about the injuries suffered by pillion riders for not wearing helmets. According to the data released by JPNATC for the year 2021-2022; more than 40 percent of pillion riders do not wear helmets and sustain serious head injuries in fatal accidents.
Speaking with ANI, Dr. Kamran Farooque, chief of the trauma center at AIIMS said, "We looked at the data from 2021- 2022 and found that almost 40 percent of pillion riders in motorized two-wheelers means motorcycles and scooters are not wearing helmets unfortunately. It is 100 percent mandatory by the law to wear helmets for both the driver and the pillion rider. We even found out that even 20 percent of the drivers also were not wearing helmets; which is absolutely against the law. We do run awareness campaigns about injuries and helmets. It is common sense that when you are riding a motorcycle or two-wheeler, you have to wear a helmet because the chances of getting a head injury increase.”
Lastly, he firmly asked all the riders to wear helmets if they value their lives or the quality of their lives.
