“While children can safely attend schools in person if appropriate precautions including social distancing, regular handwashing, masks and sanitization of surfaces are followed, I understand that some parents might still worry about sending their children back to classrooms. I hope that the rollout of a vaccination program for children in the 12 to 14 age group will alleviate some of these concerns and increase attendance in schools.  

Students in India have lost two precious years of physical schooling. We must remember that schools are more than just physical spaces for learning. By keeping children away from schools, we are depriving them of in-person classroom experiences that can help improve social, emotional and academic development; and ensure better life outcomes.”
