Essar Ports Vizag Terminal handles largest dry bulk vessel, parcel

Essar Ports Vizag Terminal, the largest iron ore handling complex in India, on Thursday said that it has handled the largest dry bulk vessel, and recorded the largest parcel in Vizag Port.

On April 20, the M.V. Star Eleni, a bulk carrier built in 2018 amd sailing under the flag of Liberia, was successfully berthed at the terminal.

"This was the largest bulk carrier handled by EVT to date loaded with DWT - 2,07,555 MT, LOA 299.88 metres and BEAM - 50 metres.

"The terminal created another milestone by successfully loading a record 1,65,000 Metric Tons (MT) of iron ore fines on M.V. Star Eleni vessel," a statement said.

While congratulating the team at Vizag, Rajiv Agarwal, Operating Partner (Infrastructure), Essar and Managing Director, Essar Ports, said that the terminals are well placed to offer sustainable advantage to its customers and trade.

Essar Ports Vizag terminal's fully mechanised eco-friendly infrastructure delivers a performance which can be benchmarked with the best across the globe, while also enabling lower logistics' cost for customers.

The terminal is strategically located in the Bay of Bengal in close proximity to ironore mines located in Chhattisgarh, southern Odisha and Jharkhand.

The all-weather deep draft facility has the wherewithal to serve the rapidly growing markets of southeast Asia including China, Japan and Korea, in addition to coastal movement for the steel industry within India.
