Market Outlook: Indian markets closed marginally lower on 3rd September, with the Nifty 50 declining 0.17% to 23,873, while the Sensex fell 0.55%. However, broader markets outperformed, with Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 250 gaining 0.37% and 1.03%, respectively. Market breadth remained positive, with NSE recording 2,207 advances against 1,311 declines and BSE witnessing 2,480 advances versus 1,855 declines. Global cues remained strongly positive, with the S&P 500, Dow Jones and Nasdaq 100 gaining 1.06%, 1.18% and 1.16%, respectively. Gift Nifty gained 0.55%, indicating a positive opening for Indian markets.

 

FII & DII Activity: Institutional flows remained mixed on 3rd September, with FIIs/FPI recording net selling of Rs2,345.9 crore, while DIIs remained strong buyers with net inflows of Rs4,977.5 crore. Strong domestic institutional buying continued to provide support despite sustained foreign selling pressure.

 

Sector Activity: Sectoral performance remained mixed, with Private Banks (+0.51%), PSU Banks (+0.48%), Financial Services (+0.43%), Energy (+0.30%) and Metals (+0.14%) gaining during the session. On the other hand, IT (-0.85%), FMCG (-0.62%), Auto (-0.52%), Consumer (-0.50%), Pharma (-0.46%) and Healthcare (-0.46%) remained under pressure, while Oil & Gas declined 0.13%.

 

F&O Activity: Long build-up was witnessed in MAHABANK, SWIGGY, RBLBANK, GMRAIRPORT and GRASIM, indicating fresh buying interest. Short build-up was observed in GODREJCP, ATHERENERG, KAYNES, BHARATFORG and POLICYBZR. Long unwinding was seen in FORCEMOT, NYKAA, BANKBARODA, SAIL and KOTAKBANK, whereas short covering emerged in YESBANK, ASTRAL, SRF, BANDHANBNK and UPL.
