Becomes the first bike maker to offer the feature
- Android Auto will be available on Touring, CVO & Trike models that are equipped with Boom! Box GTS Infotainment system.
- It will be available as a software update on the upcoming 2020 models.
- You can also get Android Auto on the bikes produced from 2014 onwards.
- From 2021, the feature will be a standard fitment.
Nowadays, connected features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are becoming almost standard in cars around the world. However, it isn’t easy to find them on motorcycles yet. Honda is one of the few bike makers who does offer Apple CarPlay (the name totally doesn’t make sense for motorcycles) on its bikes like the Goldwing and the recently launched CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports.
Harley-Davidson has now tied up with Google to offer Android Auto on select models, making it the first motorcycle manufacturer to offer Android Auto.
Android Auto will be available on Harley’s Touring, CVO and Trike models that come fitted with the Boom! Box GTS infotainment system. This feature will be available to all bikes from model year 2014 onwards that have the system fitted. It is a simple software update that you can do yourself by plugging in your smartphone into the system, or by getting your dealer to do it for you. If you are waiting out to purchase the 2020 versions of the Street Glide Special, the Road Glide Special or the big CVO Limited, you will have to do the same software update in one of these two ways. The feature will only be a standard fitment on Harleys from model year 2021 onwards.
We are still to thoroughly test out how safe it is to use either Android Auto or Apple CarPlay on motorcycles. Hence, we would urge you to keep your focus on the road, especially in our country.
