Bengal municipal polls: TMC wins 4 out of 7 civic bodies
The Trinamool Congress on Wednesday won 4 out of 7 municipalities in West Bengal including 1 in Darjeeling hills and 3 in the plains, while Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) won 3 civic bodies in the hills including Darjeeling, as per the media reports.
TMC won Domkal municipality in Murshidabad district capturing 18 out of the 21 wards and Congress emerged victorious in the rest 2 seats while CPI(M) bagged 1, official sources said, quoted PTI.
Further, in Raigunj municipality of North Dinajpur district, TMC captured 24 out of 27 wards and Congress won in 2 wards while BJP got 1. TMC bagged Pujali municipality in South 24 Paraganas district winning 12 of the 16 wards. BJP bagged 2 seats while Congress and Indepentent won 1 seat each.
Although GJM manged to retain 3 civic bodies in the hills, TMC put up a creditable performance winning in Mirik. Of the 9 seats in Mirik, TMC won 6 and GJM 3. Election to the 7 municipalities were held on May 14.
